Challenges In Distance Learning

Distance learning has given students the opportunity to attend college when they otherwise would have been unable to attend. Students enrolled in distance learning programs are faced with challenges in distance learning. Many students feel overcoming feelings of isolation as a problem in online studies. Students have limited access to other students, and services like computer labs, tutoring and library facilities.

The first step in overcoming challenges in distance learning is to become familiar with your university. Find out what the school has to offer. Many offer online libraries and tutoring. If you live within driving distance, you will be able to use the college library. Check with other universities in your area. Many will allow you to use their library with an identification card from your school.

Take advantage of any help that is offered through your school. If you are having challenges in distance learning, don't wait to seek help. Contact the school to find out what help is available for distance learning students and take advantage of the help right away. College level courses move quickly and you will only get farther behind if you wait to seek help. Participate in online chats and message boards to keep in contact with other students.

Major challenges in distance learning faced by students is organization. Students who perform best in online study are people who are self directed. You are responsible for keeping up with assignments and completing work on time. You will need to schedule time for study and stick to the schedule. Use one large calendar to keep track of exams and assignments in all courses. This will help you schedule time for study and keep you on track. Don't procrastinate; it's easy to fall behind and can be difficult to catch up.
